Founded in Darfield in the heart of the North Thompson Valley, Salt Lick BBQ has been serving real, honest, wood-smoked BBQ since 2020. We've followed our passion - and our smoker - all the way to Campbell River, where we're putting down permanent roots.
Our new brick-and-mortar location on Highway 19 is coming soon. Dine-in, catering, and the same food you've always loved - now with a place to sit down and stay a while.

ABOUT US
Salt Lick BBQ opened in 2020 and is owned and operated by husband and wife team Dustin and Lena Rainer. Dustin is a third generation farmer and rancher from the North Thompson valley. He has been farming ever since he could walk and developed an unrivalled passion for great food throughout his life. Raising and growing his own food, and providing his family with fresh, home-cooked meals has been a privilege for Dustin for a long time now.
Building their own food truck “from scratch”, and serving their own homegrown beef and chicken as well as vegetables as the season allows, gave Dustin and Lena the opportunity to serve more people and introduce them to fresh, homegrown, down-to-earth food that is smoked, cooked and prepared with love.
Over the years the focus shifted to serving more people at festivals and fairs, as well as growing the catering aspect of the business. At the end of 2025 we made the move from the North Thompson Valley to Vancouver Island, ready to put down roots in Campbell River. We're keeping true to our original promise of serving local and homegrown food wherever we can. Our food is still handmade with the same love and care you've come to appreciate over the last six years.
