Founded in Darfield in the heart of the North Thompson Valley, Salt Lick BBQ has been serving real, honest, wood-smoked BBQ since 2020. We've followed our passion - and our smoker - all the way to Campbell River, where we're putting down permanent roots.
Our new brick-and-mortar location on Highway 19 is coming soon. Dine-in, catering, and the same food you've always loved - now with a place to sit down and stay a while.

ABOUT US
Salt Lick BBQ opened in 2020 and is owned and operated by husband and wife team Dustin and Lena Rainer. Dustin is a third generation farmer and rancher from the North Thompson valley. He has been farming ever since he could walk and developed an unrivalled passion for great food throughout his life. Raising and growing his own food, and providing his family with fresh, home-cooked meals has been a privilege for Dustin for a long time now.
Building their own food truck “from scratch”, and serving their own homegrown beef and chicken as well as vegetables as the season allows, gave Dustin and Lena the opportunity to serve more people and introduce them to fresh, homegrown, down-to-earth food that is smoked, cooked and prepared with love.

Over the years the focus shifted to serving more people at festivals and fairs, as well as growing the catering aspect of the business. At the end of 2025 we made the move from the North Thompson Valley to Vancouver Island, ready to put down roots in Campbell River. We're keeping true to our original promise of serving local and homegrown food wherever we can. Our food is still handmade with the same love and care you've come to appreciate over the last six years.
OUR MENU
Our menu is always based on local meat and fresh vegetables whenever available. It changes throughout the season but you will always find the best smoked meats and other customer favourites on it.
Our Menu for the restaurant will start small and develop over time. It will be posted here and updated regularly once we're open.
CATERING AND EVENTS
We love providing people with great food. It's the reason we got into this business in the first place.

We're excited to now welcome you into our restaurant, and we're happy to bring that same great food to your next event through catering.

We have everything needed to set up a beautiful buffet for your event, and can serve if requested. We don't provide plates and silverware, but we're happy to help you source those.
